Saint Paul School of Professional Studies (SPSPS) equipped at least 35 of its graduating students with career essentials in a webinar conducted on November 23, 2021 via Zoom.
Frontlined by the Center for Guidance and Career Services, the webinar was dubbed “Career Essentials: A Pre-Employment Webinar in the New Normal,” featuring topics on writing standout resumes, building online professional profile, and leaving a lasting impression on a prospective employer.
The webinar aimed to equip the graduating students with useful tips and advice for their journey after graduation. It provided them with knowledge on workplace requirements, job search, and interviewing skills that are relevant in this new normal.
Among the plenary speakers were SPSPS faculty members Carlo B. Afable and Ma. Amor Floracel Amor Cabelin.
Afable delved into the topic of impressing recruiters and landing an entry level-job through writing standout resumes and building a professional online profile using LinkedIn.

He emphasized the need to build skills and competencies that are appropriate in the new normal.
“We need to develop a growth mindset. We see challenges and failures as opportunities to improve our learning. Have as many skills as much as possible such as perseverance, collaboration, critical thinking, and self-reliance,” said Afable.
In his discussion on building online professional profile, he mentioned the importance of maximizing and optimizing social media accounts.
He introduced the best practices for LinkedIn, from setting up a profile to sharing relevant content online.
Meanwhile, Cabelin offered insights and tips on how to leave a lasting impression on a prospective employer. In her presentation, she discussed proper grooming and behavioral interview.

The session concluded with an open forum where the speakers addressed the participants’ questions.
