Paulinian Freshie Qualifies for Regional Phil Stat Quiz

Rosario Judea Buhay, first-year Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) student, topped the 28th Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) provincial elimination held in Tacloban City on November 5, 2024.

Buhay bested 19 competitive participants from various colleges and universities in Tacloban City and other parts of Leyte, earning a total of 25 points across Rounds 1, 2, and 3 of the quiz.

Participants faced a total of ten questions per round. The first two rounds featured one-point questions, while the third round included questions worth two points each.

With this win, Buhay will represent the Leyte Division in the upcoming PSQ Regional Elimination on November 8, 2024.

“As for the level of difficulty, it was a bit challenging, especially the questions with computations…I joined the quiz to represent the school and to show that SPSPS excels not only in accounting/business subjects but also in other areas, such as statistics,” said Buhay.

Buhay is currently serving the student body as a senator of the Paulinian Student Government (PSG). In addition, she is a member of the Rotaract Club of SPSPS San Juanico and a former student journalist of The Ledger.

Coaches include Mr. Vicente Calolo, Jr., Mr. Chris Ever Ron, Mr. Roy Branzuela, and Ms. Myrene Dela Pasion. Moreover, Robert Selwyn Petilla, first-year BSA student, also represented SPSPS in the competition.

Organized by the National Statistics Office (NSO) in partnership with the Philippine Statistical Association (PSA), the PSQ is an annual competition that is part of the nationwide celebration of Statistics Month.

The quiz aims to assess students’ statistical skills and emphasize the importance of statistics to the public.
