SPSPS advocates for a safer educational institution
Saint Paul School of Professional Studies (SPSPS), through its Gender and Development Unit, organized a session on the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313) for faculty and staff, and on both the Safe Spaces Act and the Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (RA 9262) for students, November 19.
Led by the Faculty of Law Professor and Legal Private Practitioner, Atty. Barbette Joanne M. Badocdoc-Reposar, the session aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of these laws and raise awareness of their shared responsibilities in ensuring compliance.
In her talk, Atty. Reposar emphasized the significance of the law in creating a safer and more inclusive environment, detailing its provisions, the importance of compliance, and the critical role each individual plays in fostering a culture of respect and accountability.
Moreover, Atty. Reposar also provided practical guidance on how to recognize and respond to violations effectively of the Safe Spaces Act and VAWC Act.
The Safe Spaces Act was enacted in the country in 2019 to combat sexual harassment in public spaces, workplaces, and online platforms.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004 is a law that protects women and their children from various forms of abuse, including physical, sexual, psychological, and economic harm.
This initiative directly supports SPSPS’ goal of nurturing a learning community that is not only academically excellent but also socially responsible and committed to ethically demonstrate self-respect and respect for others.
According to the SPSPS Gender and Development Unit, these activities are part of SPSPS’ support for the nationwide annual observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), held from November 25 to December 12.
