SPSPS Faculty of Law Wins National Championship at Moot Court Competition
Saint Paul School of Professional Studies (SPSPS) Faculty of Law dominates in the UC-Konrad Adenauer Stiftung International Environmental Law Moot Court Competition held from October 21 to 23, 2024, at Bai Hotel, Cebu City.
Team 432 of SPSPS emerged as the National Champion. The team comprised oralists Joedel Peñaranda (JD 3A) and Hesus Adolfo Bucatcat (JD 3B), along with researchers Melboy Bulan (JD 2B) and Ma. Trina Celine Cugtas (JD 1B).
The group also won the Overall Best Memorial and the Best Memorial for the Applicant. Joedel Peñaranda was recognized as the Top 1 Best Oralist of the Tournament, while Hesus Bucatcat placed as the Top 9 Best Oralist.
Meanwhile, Team 418 of SPSPS, consisting of Lourieniel Dacillo (JD 5), Jacquelyn Isidro (JD 4), Patrick Anthony Cañedo (JD 1A), and Mac Bruen Ibañez (JD 1B), achieved the 5th Best Memorial.
Coaches included Judge Angiebel Divinagracia-Go and Atty. Dick Guiller Delfin.
The event, organized by the University of Cebu (UC) in cooperation with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) Law Programme Asia, focuses on the questions relating to the Protection of Forests, Rights of Environment Defenders, and State Responsibility.
This is the 3rd National Championship title of SPSPS, having won as National Champion at the 3rd Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Moot Court Competition last April 27 and National Champion at the 2nd Inter-Law School Human Rights Debate Tournament on December 5, 2023.
SPSPS Law Moot & Debate Society extended gratitude to the SPSPS community, specifically to President Erwin Vincent G. Alcala, Dean Raymund S. Gallardo, VD Felma Freda L. Lopez, and the Faculty of Law. Special recognition was given to the SPSPS FoL Bar Operations Team and the Lex Circle for their support of the team.
